Hi we are taking a 2 week vacation at the end of month to N.C.
We are not sure which area has job availability & how the housing market is as well. We were thinking about Durham, Chapel Hill area? Any advise for us. Are kids are grown & gone, so it will only be my husband & myself.
If you search down a little, there are many, many threads of this same kind of thing..but in a nutshell, the job situation is not any better here than anywhere else and is actually worse in NC than many places, at the moment. Housing is a buyer's market (like everywhere). What industry are you in? You should not move here without a job lined up already.
We are always looking for people to work with our home based product distribution company, but frankly, do not come here unless you have something lined up for work. It is getting better, but jobs are available for specialties mostly.

I posted a link for you above. My partner and I found working pretty quickly. If you roll over each county on the map, you will see employment is very good here. This should help you decide where to move. The unemployment rate near Chapel Hill is only around 6 percent. That is really good. It will be a good move for you.
Did you say what type of employment you will be looking for? This can make a huge difference. My husband and I moved from the Boston area 8 years ago and are very happy here. We drove down over a long weekend and checked it out. Then we quit our jobs and made the move. If you have some money saved up, it can work. No regrets here.

The employment situation is MUCH different now than it was 8 years ago. Moving here now with no job will most likely have very different results.
