Yes, that's it. We're just to the east of the dog park. Yeah, it was our only shot at being able to afford an older home close to downtown (young couple about to marry who wouldn't be happy in a new development). Definitely appears to be a good deal of renovating going on. Dumpsters and work crews on every block. We're closing two days after our honeymoon and moving in mid-summer. Can't wait!

I think you've made a great choice. If I worked anywhere downtown (we work in Henderson and RTP...downtown doesn't make ANY sense for us)....and couldn't live in Oakwood....I would be keeping my eye on that area for a home.

I'll probably be hitting the the Oakwood do park this weekend....that one seems to be my pups favorite. Do you know what shops they are putting in that one retail space right at the edge of the area?

Our realtor said she thought that there would be a coffee shop/cafe, but wasn't sure beyond that.

In Chapel Hill you have to follow the set back requirements for a shed. There is also a size limit for a shed without needing a building permit. I'd call the Planning or Building Inspections Dept. for Raleigh to check.

Mike Jaquish is right, as usual. Your new neighborhood is Capital Heights. It was developed in the late 1940s and early 1950s and is now being "rediscovered," in part because of the popular dog park recently added to adjacent Oakwood Park.

And Desdemona is right, as usual, too: You made a good choice. It's a great neighborhood with a great mix of folks. A lot of new people have moved in because of the location, character and affordability. But there are some folks who have been there for decades, and I believe there are still a few original owners remaining. The houses are small but well built.

I don't believe there is a homeowner's association, although the neighborhood is part of the Oakwood Park Community Watch, which also includes the streets to the north and west of the Park.

I hope you enjoy living in Raleigh and Capital Heights. I'm sure you will find a warm welcome there!
