In my experience, less pain and more skill went right along with lower price - maybe because there was more of a market there, maybe they had lower overhead, but I think it was because they were a waxing house and not a spa.

I am more concerned about paying too much for mediocre yet frou frou service just because it is at a spa. I want to get the best value for my money, because it will not be a one-time service but rather a regular service for me.
I really don't care about whether it is a high end salon/spa or a small, cozy business. I'm just a weakling when it comes to pain lol.

I can highly recommend Kate at Posh Salon in Durham. According to their website, they are having a special through the end of August - 20% off waxing on Mondays.

I thought the OP was looking for 100% off waxing.

let me know if you find somewhere good in the area! i'm looking to get it done, too. =)
Ha! I can just imagine the sort of replies that you'd get to such an ad

I came across this thread when searching for a new aesthetician. I had been lucky enough to find her (after many, many disappointments) at one of the big "chain" waxing places, and I had been going to her for 8 months, but she decided to quit the profession altogether after some sort of dispute with the owner of the local franchise (I gather that employee retention isn't the greatest for these places, so finding someone that really knows her job and will be around for a long time is a nightmare).

I was looking for someone who was in North Raleigh, close to my office, who does waxing and facials, but unfortunately, I didn't find the answer in this thread (or any others on city-data) but I did find someone that I absolutely adore, so I thought I would post her deets just in case anyone else is looking!

Heather @ the Original Skin Studio is just amazing. So, no brazilian will ever be 'painless', but I have to say, she knows her s*** and gives me the least painful Brazilians that I've ever gotten, plus, we chat the whole way through, which (I think) detracts from the attention that I'm paying to what's going on "down there" . I haven't gotten a chemical peel from her yet, but her 'standard' facials are amazing.

Oh, and eyebrows. OMG, my eyebrows have never looked this amazing.

Anyhow, yes, I registered on city-data just to post this, because
a) she's incredible (and I'm giddy to have found her!!)
b) she started her own local business, and I'm all about "shop local"

Can I put a link to her site on here? Not sure - here goes:
