I'm looking for a place walking distance to 9th street and the shuttle bus to DUMC. I'm interning there for a year and I'm looking for a safe, clean apartment. It's my buddy and I, so we need two bedrooms.

Generally, what are the areas to absolutely avoid at all costs, and what are some really nice areas to live?

Typically, where do the less rich Duke students tend to live off-campus?

Thanks a lot.

Erwin Square apts are right on ninth, cool old reconverted mill buildings. Older development, but some very pretty apts in there. Can be noisy depending on your neighbors.

Station 9 is brand new, a couple blocks from ninth. DUMC bus picks up right across the street. Pricey.

Lots of rental houses in the area, at affordable prices.
