I heard from two people, one which is a commercial real estate agent who is "in-the-know", that they have broken ground on the Alston project in West Cary.

I was surprised because I read back in the Spring this year that it was likely delayed anywhere from 2-10 years.

Does anyone know if they officially have broken ground, and when the anticipated finish date would be?

If you're referring to Parkside Town Commons, they do not appear to have broken ground. The site appears unchanged for the last 1 1/2 - 2 years. According to the developer's website, they are planning to open in Summer 2011, which probably means they'll need to break ground by June 2010 to make that date.

Perhaps your friend who is in the know knows more than us.

Alston is supposed to be on the other side of 55 from Parkside Commons. No idea on whether it has broken ground though.

Work has started on punching Little Rd through to connect with O'Kelly Chapel Rd at 55 (they are also working at the same spot on finally linking the RTP part of Louis Stephens up with the Cary part).

This is correct. It is separate from the Parkside Commons, which is currently on hold. Guess I'll take a drive down to see if anything is going on with the Alston side of things.

Check out this link on Town of Cary's website - gives the Approved Concept plans...

If & when it gets built it should rival Brier Creek and I am told is developed by some of the same financial backers who long ago anticipated the growth & plucked up land all along the 540 perimeter (under 100 different LLC's, of course).

Here is a link to the developer's website for the plans:

AAC - Master Planned - Alston Town Center (http://www.aacusa.com/alston.html - broken link)

Same developer as Brier Creek

EDIT: Just called the developer, they have no break ground date. I think someone may be confusing this construction with the recent clearing of trees for the 540 extension.

Looks to me like that link is to parkside Town Commons on the other side of NC55 north of NC540 - I didn't check every sheet but dates I saw were May 2009.

The Link doe's eventually take you to Alstom Shopping center plans but they were last revised June 21st 2007, so no activity in almost 3 years which isn't surprising in this economy.
