Ok - Sounds a bit strange, but my husband kinda dared me to ask this question, as we have both been wondering since we moved here to the Raleigh area 3 years ago. What's with all the bald men? I mean, I have never seen so many men who apparently shave their heads. Something in the water? Seriously, is it due to baldness; a fashion statement or what? If it is because they were going bald, why so many men as opposed to other places I have lived, i.e., AZ and TX? Just curious ...

Our number of hairless friends increased exponentially when we moved here. Not sure why exactly. All of of our hairless friends are in their 30s, and they shave their heads because they are losing their hair and don't want that balding look. But whatever you do, don't say they're "bald"! Instead, they sport a "shaved head".

Well, some of my friends who have hair for some portions of the year go bald twice a year or so for charity. St. Baldrick's - Home It's a big thing in Raleigh (and nationwide). Maybe some of the folks you see are participating? It's a wonderful charity.

From what I understand head shaving is just another hairstyle these days. Good thing cause I've been shaving mine everyday for 6 years. I do see a lot of guys around Raleigh doing the same.

Raleigh is a popular hangout to get away from base or live no where near the base
there is alot more to do in Raleigh than the towns they are near

I think it looks very cool! I never knew it wasn't common in other areas. Many women I know don't really care about how much hair a man has. I say shave it as long as your head isn't a funny shape and you don't want a receding hairline. I feel bad when I hear that it bothers men when they start losing hair.
I hope the "fashion" never changes to those hair piece things that are glued on. I hate those things, I can't stop staring at them! You always see the demarcation line Go bald, be proud and sexy!

genetics is my reason. Although I have to say it is a LOT easier to keep a bald head. I have not stepped foot in a barber shop in well over 10 years, and can get ready to go anywhere fast. My 10 year old daughter still thinks it's funny that I don't want to run out in the rain because it will "mess my hair up"....

I don't know why anyone else does it, but that's my story....
