Your natural gas bill? Comparison w/ Jan 09 (house, water heater)

So with the cold weather weve been having, whats your natural gas bill?

We used 190 therms ($202) compared to 80 therms ($117) last January. Yikes! This is our highest bill ever (2600 ish sq feet home, gas heat) Thank goodness the rate is considerable lower than last year ($0.96 vs $1.36 per therm)

Now, we have been quite liberal with the temps. Last year we did 65 during the day, 63 at night. This year we have it at 70 and 68 as we have a newborn.

In our defense its MUCH colder this year!

Ours has been surprisingly low. I am excited about it.

I haven't gotten my January bill, but December was $104 PY and $77 CY. PY January was $108. My house is a bit smaller, about 2100 sqft and we keep it around 68/65 (day/night).

My budget billing also changes in January. Going down $12 this year, only $36. We use VERY little gas when it is above 65 degrees.

Ours was dramatically higher as well. But this month has been a lot colder than last January, and my husand LOVES to have the fireplace on!!

Darman, your January bill might unfortunately dampen your excitement a bit. Our December bill was $104 Our gas bills are really low in summer, Sept was only $17 - gas range and gas hot water heater. We dont do the budget billing through them, we have our own system. Our monthly utility budget remains the same throughout the year. Surplus is put in a seperate account with our property taxes so we have the $ if we go over (like this month!)

Coastal - Id LOVE to have the fireplace on but they are such gas hogs! Our pilot light is out - too much temptation.

Mine was $201.76 vs. $144.94 for last year, but the lower gas price definitely helped. I used 199 therms vs. 97 for last year, so my bill could have been double. My house leaks like a sieve though - might as well have a window wide open! Maybe I'll break down and get replacement windows later this year!

Oh, and my house is 1800sf and I keep the thermostat at 68 during the day and 64 at night.

mine was $230 this past bill....shooting up from $50 the month before.....i thought i had a gas leak somewhere!

Our Jan10 bill was only slightly higher than our Jan09 bill, but it covered 3 fewer days. PSNC's website says on a daily basis, we used 12% more this year than last.

We've been using electric space heaters a lot more trying to reduce gas usage and our gas bill was still around $127. So we didn't accomplish anything really considering that we increased our electric bill in the process. LOL! I think we all just have to accept that it's going to cost a bit more to heat our homes this year. A little more than one more month of this and we should be in better shape.

We use the 38000btu gas logs frequently, but especially when temp is transitioning higher.
