We went down there last August, so have no clue about winters. Now we're going in Mid-February to see how things are. While I plan some fun activities for us to do while we're down there (small kids, so nothing wild unfortunately), I'm trying to sort out whether it'll be too cold for certain things ... like the kid activities at Pullen Park (boats, carousel, train ride) or even spending hours at the Duke Garden. Obviously, we can suffer a bit through the cold and do a little bit of this stuff, but if it's anything like N.Y. and you're someone that doesn't like the cold, well, anything outdoors for more than 20 minutes is no fun at all ("except for skiing" some may say, I even hate skiing ).
So, barring abnormal weather, what should I expect and plan for in mid-February?

In mid February, expect a good time. Watch the weatherchannel or check the national weather service website and plan accordingly.
Impossible to predict. It could be highs in the 60s and very pleasant, or it could be snow & ice.
Right.
You are going to need a plan A and Plan B. IT could be sunny and mild in the 50-60's or it could be cold and rainy. No way to know until we get closerto the actual date. Check the local weather ;eading up to your trip down. I like the weather forecasts from the local news station WRAL.com - Raleigh News, Weather, and Triangle Traffic.
What range of dates will you be down? What part of the area will you be visitng. If you post that people might be able to give you a heads up of kid things that may be going on then.
God Luck!
