I am from Michigan and recently applied to Raleigh NC police academy. Just wondering if anyone (preferably Raleigh officers) could tell me anything about the department: academy, training, pay, benefits, morale, take home car program, cost of living, weather, and why 80 officers have left the last two years.

I have tested in Aurora, Co and would like to move there. Is Raleigh a good department to work for? Thank you for looking.

Head to Raleigh Police Department :: Welcome for the "official" answers and North Carolina - Police Forums & Law Enforcement Forums @ Officer.com for a thread of RPD, where most of those questions have already been answered in some form. Good luck!

Good luck ever getting a call back. I'm fairly qualified and I was never even given the opportunity to test. I had better luck elsewhere.

Cary cops = boo hiss!
Wake Forest cops = ROFLMAO
Raleigh cops = Great folks!

Just wanted to share my experience from a "residents" point of view.

As an active community resident, I've never dealt with a more attentive and pleasant police force. I'm sure they have their issues, but it's light years better than anywhere else I've lived.

I have had the same experience with the Raleigh police. I think of them all as heroes.
