Oh, yeah.
Fond memories here, as in, "lucky to be alive," of the Lightning Glider.

Back in Baltimore, we used to improvise and use a large cardboard box broken down, trash can lids (the old metal kinds that I'm not even sure they have here in NC), or just experiment with any household item that might make it down the hill.

Flexible Flyer it is!! For $80 bucks if they only get one good use out of it, it will be worth the memories. We have priceless memories from our last snowfall in Portland sledding with all the neighborhood kids.

My hubby ended up getting out an old Boy Mechanic book and found a set of plans for a wooden sled and built one last night from left over wood in his shop. We added some wax to the wooden rails and it worked great for the kids. It did not steer that well, but the kids did not seem to mind.

Thanks to everyone for the great sled recommendations! Mike, we're glad you triumphed over the hill so you could grow up and join us down here in old NC.

As of this writing, there are a couple of old Flexible Flyers for sale on Craigslist.
