So when we moved 2.5 years ago we left the sleds. I spent most of my day trying to find a sled and came up empty handed. So I plan to purchase one online for that next big snow we have. We found in Oregon that some sleds did better than others and really just depended on the snow.

So what kind of sled do you use here in NC ... the Triangle and if you take them w/ you to the Mountains and do you like your sled???

Any brand or type recommendations are greatly appreciated.

Happy sledding (I'm thinking positive about the weather.)

Do they still make Flexible Flyer, with the steel runners? That's all I ever owned as a kid.

I've got 2 1970's-era flexible flyers in my folks' attic in Charlotte. We moved there from up north when I was a kid, and there was only 1 time I can remember there being enough packed snow & ice to make using them worthwhile in Charlotte. It seemed that the plastic trash can lid looking things, or just a tube, worked better most of the time.

What I do know, after reading all these posts today, is that I'm going to get those sleds from my parents attic and have them ready to post on craigslist before the next snow. Profit!!

It depends. Sometimes flexible flyers work best, for hard packed snow. For soft, wet snow, flat bottom plastic ones are the best. We keep both.

There were 2 of these type of Flexible Flyers (wood slats with steel runners) for sale this morning at the Ace Hardware on Falls of Neuse. I guess they sold along with all the plastic sleds. They were $79.99 each.

My advice.. buy something inexpensive since it won't get used often!

Holy Moly if live in NC, but growing up as a kid in Pittsburgh, the ONLY sled is a flexible flyer. I had more fun growing up on that thing. We litterally used to jump it down big hills and over fences.

We rarely get enough snow in NC for a bladed sled, but up north, it is the bomb!!!! Oh what good memories....
