My daughter will be Kindergarten age for the 2010-2011 school year, and I am searching for options. Can anyone tell me the names/websites of Kindergarten programs in the area that are not in public schools? They can be from any philosophy and price range etc. I just want to compare options! THANKS!!!

All the Catholic schools such as St. Michael, Sacred Heart, Our Lady of Lourdes, and the Episcopalian ones St. Davids and St. Timothy, and Ravenscroft is secular.

I think there is also something called Atlas International School. Try Heartwood Montessouri.

I think a recent issue of Carolina Parent may have had a schools issue recently in which most independent schools advertise.

The stuff I am mentioning is in the Raleigh/Cary area.

To the west you have Durham Academy, Duke School, Carolina Friends.

Thanks for those suggestions. Does anybody know of Kindergartens that are smaller or not part of a larger school? How about home Kindergartens that are not child cares?

Look for church based preschools that also have a kindergarten, some may be called developmental kindergarten.

This is from the St. Michael Early Childhood Center site (in Cary). They have a wonderful program, overall. Registration is basically right now, I think. There is also K at St. Michael School, which goes PreK-8th grade, that is a full day.

It seems to be a half day.

Developmental Kindergarten

Five day (M-F) - Five (5) years old by 08/31/2010

This program organizes developmentally appropriate activities into units and themes designed to accomplish readiness for kindergarten as well as further strengthen the children's confidence and self-esteem. The luxury of five days affords the teacher the opportunity to more fully explore each unit with the children. Teachers encourage readiness to learn and question, utilization of the children's developing sense of responsibility, and their abilities for imaginative play, dramatic play, construction, and simple games. This program offers a "kinder, gentler" approach for children who need an extra year to grow before entering a full day kindergarten.
