Durham and Orange County schools have already announced they're closed tomorrow (Tuesday), Feb. 2.

No word from Wake or Carrboro-Chapel Hill.

It's always like this. Y'all must not be from around here . I'm 99% sure Wake will be closed tomorrow too.

My street is Cary is still pretty icy. No way a bus is going to make it down here!
Welcome to NC!

OK, that is nuts. I am originally from the even deeper south than this and even *I* think that's ridiculous! Here in my neighborhood in Apex, the street is pretty much clear from my house on. The driveway is still icy but that'll be gone tomorrow afternoon. It's melting quickly here....if Wake County is closed tomorrow, that will be crazy!

My neighborhood and the surrounding secondary roads are still all icy and snowy in many spots. The school buses don't just stay on the main roads- they have to go into all the neighborhoods. Safety for our children must come first.

When I was a kid, I used to stand at the bus stop in the winter with 6" of snow on the streets and it still falling. I used to pray "Please don't come. Please don't come", but in never worked. That school bus would always come down the hill (I lived in Pittsburgh, which is very hilly -- see Google Map link) to take us to school.

I was out this afternoon and some of the main roads in Garner were still completely covered with packed snow and ice. Tomorrow morning will be a mess if Wake County schools are open on time. I live right next door to a school, and our road was salted then later scraped, but there are still roads in my neighborhood completely covered in ice. I can imagine those back country roads of Wake County are still pretty bad and will be worse in the AM after all of the slush freezes. Wish the roads were better, I'm ready for mine to go back!

Just as a reminder the school district sizes in NC are huge. So if even just one area of wake county is in terrible conditions school is canceled for the whole district.

I just saw on Wake County Public School website all classes are cancelled tomorrow as well...I understand all the roads might not be clear everywhere. I hope they have school on Wednesday!
