I've lived in my current location for two years and I was very surprised to fine upon moving here that you pay income tax at the municipal level in this area. So not only do you fill out a federal and state tax return, but also a CITY tax return. It's quite a pain actually because you will get money withheld from the city you work in and not necessarily from the city you live in - and there are various other assorted complications.
I'm planning to move there eventually and I was just wondering if some such situation exists in the Raleigh area. Thanks
Your obligations would be federal, state (which depending on where you're from can seem high), sales, property if you own a home and personal property on vehicles, etc. No city income tax.
Tell me more about the personal property tax, please - just a nutshell.
