Looking for decent Mexican food...Cary area
We have been looking for some really good authentic Mexican food since we got here 2 yrs ago from CA...and have yet to find any. We have been to many small places around Cary, no luck. If the taco shell tastes like a Taco Bell taco, its not authentic! Moes doesn't count either.
Anyway, if you know of a decent place...even Tex Mex...please let me know! Thanks!

Dos Taquitos!
In my opinion the best Mexican Food can be found at Dos Taquitos in N. Raleigh. They will be opening a location in Downtown Raleigh in a few months as well. It isn't in Cary, but worth the drive in my opinion. Just be aware that it gets quite busy on Friday and Saturday nights so be prepared to wait 20-30 minutes to get seated.

Las Palmas is the best Mexican place I've been to since I moved her a year ago. I've been to maybe 10 different places and this is by far the best. They have 3 locations in the triangle, but I go to the one off of I-540 and Leesville Rd.
Great fast service and excellent food. You won't be disappointed trust me! The only downside is that if you don't get there by 5:30pm for dinner then it gets crowded, but that's because it's so good. No offense North_Raleigh_Guy, but I've been to Dos Taquitos once when las Palmas was too crowded, and I didn't like the food...it was bland in comparison to Las Palmas.

What are you looking for? Tex-Mex? fresh Mex? interior cuisine?
Asking for authentic Mexican food is like asking for authentic American food. There isn't one answer.

None taken. I am always up for trying a new place. Thanks for the tip. I am looking forward to checking out Las Palmas sometime soon although I hope the 45 minute wait isn't typical otherwise I may try and catch them on an "off" night.

I haven't tried this place yet, but there is a new place called Tarascos on SE Maynard road in Cary that is supposed to be very authentic. It's in a sort of weird little strip mall with some small, foreign owned business like tailors and dry cleaners. Directly across the street from one of Cary's (few) trailer parks. This particular trailer park has a very high hispanic population and I believe many of them eat and work there as well. I live nearby so I know some of the folks living around there!

I cannot judge the authenticity of Mexican food as I have never been to Mexico or the Southwestern USA. Still, I enjoy the food at the Cary location of Los Tres Magueyes (SW Maynard & Kildaire Farm Rd). Los Tres Magueyes Restaurante Mexicano. It is a popular place but may be too Americanized for your tastes.
Our Mexican friends recommended Taqueria Chicos at Maynard Plaza (1401 SE Maynard Rd, Cary). Be aware that it is a hole-in-the-wall type of place. I do not see it listed on the website so maybe it is gone. The place Lamishra mentioned is there though Cary International Shops.
Also, you may be interested in the Annual Festival Ritmo Latino at the Sertoma Amphitheater in Bond Park, Cary (Aug 5, 2007). There will be a 'Latin food court' with local vendors. Festival Ritmo Latino

Funny NewUser! Is that Eastern BBQ or Western BBQ? HA! Lets not go there!
There isn't much I miss about CA, but I could eat good mexican food for every meal.
When I say authentic, I mean So Cal, 50% hispanic population authentic. The hole in the wall places are usually the best. Creamy refried beans, tangy rice that doesn't like rice a roni, crispy fresh fried chips...heavy on the cilantro. The salad with peppery ranch dressing. Good cheese and lots of it...and a decent Salsa Fresca. No ground beef, marinated grilled steak. A chicken enchilada that isn't buried under 3 inches of sour cream...whats up with that around here...just the red sauce & cheese please.
I'm getting hungry typing this...
