IMO he was a nice guy (outwardly anyway), but was bad for the future of WCPSS.
Good luck with that. Burns will likely be hired immediately as "outside talent" to help build up another school system, he's better than anyone Wake is going to bring in from the outside. What you are going to get is a right winger idealogue who will put in his 4 years and make all the suburbanites happy, and then quickly move on to let someone else clean up the mess.

Enjoy.

You talking about the old board, right?
"A new broom sweeps clean."
I am surprised he did not announce out right after the election.
Don't be such a crybaby; the people have spoken.
Have a nice retirement.

So when is the next election? Why don't you run or find a candidate who will go back to the old system?

I agree completely. The only silver lining in Wake County's mess, is the tiny sliver of hope that Durham Public Schools will hire Dr. Burns as our new super to replace Carl Harris. Please, oh please, oh please!!!

All I have to say is that I am glad my daughter is a Junior in HS. No matter what anyone else says...Wake County Public Schools has been good to my kids. My 3 older ones graduated from Wake County, went on to UNC-CH, NCSU and ECU. I don't agree with everything that they have done BUT all this change will have its good and its bad and I hope the students aren't the ones that suffer.

I am sorry that Del Burns has resigned. I do not think this is a good thing. I give the man credit for sticking to his beliefs and walking away from a job that pays him over $250,000 per year because of his beliefs. Our loss is going to be someone else's gain.

Vicki

Well that's just the point of it, isn't it - yes, Burns is "outside talent" as far as any other school district is concerned. He can bring his knowledge and experiences from his tenure with WCPSS to another system, just as WCPSS can bring in knowledge and experience from elsewhere by its hiring of a new superintendent. There is inherent value in having different perspectives. Becoming too inbred is not good for any organization.

I don't doubt that the new Board will seek to bring in someone who is aligned with their priorities. I don't know that that has to be a "right winger ideologue." (I'm not sure how many of those there are in U.S. public education anyway, outside of school boards.)

I think they should replace the whole board with fresh, creative, young TEACHERS just a few years out of school, and put out to pasture the good ole boys that are entrenched everywhere down here.Progressive new fresh ideas. It's time for Boss hog's to retire.
