All,
Considering moving my family from CT to Raliegh area. I'm a native Long Islander and would be miserable if i couldn't watch the Mets & Jets (I know... watching them can sometimes make you miserable as well; pick your poison).
So I'm guessing I would have to get DirecTV and buy MLB Exta Innings & NFL Sunday Ticket... correct?
I've had DirecTV in the past and loved the clarity of the signal, just too many trees near my house blocked the signal in the spring/summer.
Also, I work from home and High-Speed Internet access is a reqrmnt for my job. I currently use AT&T High Speed DSL and that works fine. Would it be safe to assume there are reliable High-Speed DSL in the area?
Ed, there are plenty of high speed DSL companies here. And plenty of people have Direct TV. My husband, gets MLB extra innings for his beloved Mets, and goes to the bar or cafe down the street to get together with other Jet fans and watch the Jets. So, I think you will be OK here
As is true anywhere, you need to check on DSL availability when you look for a place to live. Local high speed options include DSL wired via the local LEC and cable providers as well as Wimax and EVDO wireless. All are physical location dependent to various degrees.
We have Direct TV for both the NFL and the MLB packages though not to watch the Mets or Jets...
It is pricey for the packages but probably worth it if you are die hard fans. It's also nice to have a break from cable. I have century something (formerly embarq) for our DSL line- we live in Clayton- and my husband frequently works from home.
My husband pays for the online MLB package and we got a Roku box which streams it in HD to the TV. Haven't used it for live games yet, but have watched NetFlix movies on it and the quality is great (and they have at least a couple of last year's baseball playoffs to watch and the quality is also great). Not sure how much a satellite MLB package costs vs the online version, but anyway. . . the Roku was $100 and we've already gotten our money's worth out of it. We're not big football fans so can't help there.
I'm a former Long Islander myself now living in Clayton. I use Time Warner Cable for TV and High Speed Internet. For my misery ... I get MLB Extra Innings for my Mets and NBA League pass for my dare I say it ... knicks. A thing to note with MLB Extra Innings, they do not carry Saturday day games, any game on a national TV channel (such as fox or ESPN) and any games with Washington would be blacked out, so there will be games you would still miss.
Big Jets fan and I typically go to a bar to watch the game but I'm sure the NFL package would work. There is actually one Jets bar near the airport that I went to one time this past season but can't remember the name offhand (I prefer to go closer to my house).
Wow, seems to be a lot of us Mets fans around here... Now I know of another place I can vent this season (and from the looks of this past offseason, I'll be doing a lot of that this year).
We are going to switch to Dish when our current contract with TWC expires, and I'm looking forward to getting it because they carry SNY, which should allow me to watch the Mets games. Previously, I would get MLB.TV and watch games on my computer or laptop.
