Is there anyone out there using the new "Straight Talk" wireless plan being offered by Walmart? How is the coverage? I have heard that they use the Verizon towers, is this true? Please let me know if you're happy or not and why.

Tx!

PB

I have no personal experience with Straight Talk, but I do know that they do use Verizon's network.
They're Tracfone re-branded for Walmart.

Buy yourself any GSM unlocked phone you want off ebay or craigslist and then buy T-Mobile Sim card or stop by a T-Mobile office and they will give you one with 15 minutes on it. Then buy your minutes off ebay. You can buy 1000 minutes for less than $90 (most of the time - $100 at T-Mobile) and once you have bought into the gold plan (1000 minutes) any time you buy minutes you get 115%.

In addition the minutes last for a full year and to make them roll over all you have to do is to add $10 once a year. This is a great service for those who use less than 300 minutes a month.

If you want 3G service, it is not available from anyone in the states by megabytes as it is in Europe so you will have to sign up for a plan.

I am also thinking about switching to Straight Talk to lower my monthly cell bill. I'm a long-time Verizon customer and have had excellent coverage in the Raleigh area. Is anyone else in this area using Straight Talk and how is your service?

Wow. I guess we'd have to give up our Blackberries, but with something else data capable, I don't know if I'd be missing anything but our $180/mth Verizon bill......I just got all giddy at the possibility of cutting my phone bill in half....

I Had Verizon / Alltel for 8 years and switched to Straight Talk over a year ago. I service was great everywhere with Verizon and just as good with Straight talk.

$32 a month 1000 mins 1000 text and 30mb of web. Reception is great everywhere I go. I was paying over $60 a month for 700 mins.

After telling several family members about ST they switched and never looked back. Can't say enough good things about this service.

Thumbs up Straight talk is good

Yes. We use straight talk. We switch between $30/month-1000 min plan to $45/momnth-unlimited plan based on needs. It provides great service and we refill online. There phones are not the best kind but work great for SMS and limited web browsing which is included.

StraitTalk, Net10, and Tracfone(all are the same company) use AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile networks depending on which phone you buy. When you look at the phones, you will see that the model number will end with either a "C" or a "G". If you want to use the Verizon towers, you need to make sure to get a phone that ends in C (stands for CDMA). If you get a phone that ends in G (stands for GSM) it will use AT&T or T-Mobile towers.

We have the myfamilymobile plan through Walmart/Tmobile. It is SO superior to our service with Net10, it isn't even funny. And the service is equal to that which we had through Verizon (except better reception at my husband's office), for much less money.

We only text and call; no web browsing.
