I'd spell it Mebbin to get the correct pronunciation. Emphasis on the MEB. There's no AY sound in the BANE. It's just BIN or BEN.

Sounds like everyone is telling you to go Mehben...but check out Hillsborough too. My husband worked in Chapel Hill and I worked in Greensboro. Mehben would have been closer for me to work, but we really like Hillsborough. Then we switched up, and I ended up in RTP. Either way, it's a great spring board east or west. Esp. if you are on the south side of Hillsborough. (i.e. where I-40 and I-85 intersect). It takes about 25 minutes to RTP/airport, and about 40 minutes to "G-city", depending on what part of G-city" you are going.
If you don't have kids (and therefore not having to worry about schools), you'll probably find Mebane more economicall feasible. Taxes are lower and so are the housing costs.

Actually, a good friend of mine (very educated and education-minded) has a kid at Yoder Elementary (in Mebbin) and loves it. So even if they do have kids (elementary, at least), it's a good pick.

Is that Orange County? I thought I read part of Mebane is in Orange and the schools were better in that part of town.

I personally don't know since I don't have kids, but I have heard the Mebane schools in Alamance County are pretty good. I don't know how they compare to Orange though.

EM Yoder is Mebane (Alamance Schools). Overall, I think the schools perform fine. If you look at stats though, OCS has higher scores than ACS. But scores aren't everything.
