Hi all,

Does anyone have an opinion as to a good place to live half way between Greensboro and RTP? We would be open to renting an apartment but would probably prefer a single family home. Are there any nice towns that are relatively equidistant? Graham? Haw River? Mebane?

Should I have any commuting traffic concerns as well? For example, Google maps says 36 min from Graham to RTP. Is that fairly accurate?

Thanks!

I would say Mebane is your best bet. I find it's the nicest of the towns. You can get to RTP in 30 minutes taking 147, but of course that depends on what part of RTP.

Any of the towns you mentioned would work. Basically, anything on the east side of Burlington through to Mebane...or even Hillsborough if you don't mid a bit longer commute towards Greensboro. Another option if you're looking for something unique is Saxapahaw...its a charming little mill community on the Haw River south of Graham. It has a beautifully restored mill with apartments and townhomes, rental cottages, a general store, post office, farmers market, summer music series, etc... Saxapahaw is truly a hidden gem in central NC. Saxapahaw Rivermill Home Page

I like Mebane, lots of good stuff going on, and very inexpensive.

How much cheaper would a 1BR or 2 BR apartment in Mebane be as opposed to Raleigh, Durham, or Chapel Hill?

Exactly! Sort of like Conetoe. It's not Cone-toe, it's cuh-nee-tah.
