graffiti is an art, although i do not write it my self, i enjoy seeing the colorfully painted words scribed on walls, it takes a plain wall and makes it interesting, giving you something to enjoy while driving. i would also not suggest removing the graffiti yourself, as many taggers and theyre "crews" would hurt someone very bad for something like that. i agree that gang related graffiti is no good, but most along the beltline is just some guy trying to express himself through art. it takes a lot to climb a green billboard just for your art, and i respect that.

This sounds like a threat.

Well, that guy can "express himself" on his own property, not public property. And I'll continue to fight it.

the graffiti these clowns are putting up there is common garbage...and at any rate it's against the law to do that to other people's property including to public property. And the best way to fight it is to remove it quickly. The worst response possible is to leave it there for months & months the way the Wake NCDOT is doing.

I just called the 733-2191 number about the graffiti between Capital and Wade on the beltline. The woman on the line just quickly said, "I'll tell them about it." Is that the response other have gotten?

Someone (with a little pull) told me that he contacted the DOT many times via email and phone calls and then contacted the top guy at DOT, and it was only then that there was any action. This was for graffiti on 440 and 540. They took care of some big sections but not the nooks and crannies. So apparently now they're working on it.

No kidding? That would be great. I'm driving back on that route this evening - I'm curious to see what they've done.

I have no idea exactly where it was -- except "440 and 540."
