I was wondering what kind of summer night attackers I can expect to see in Durham. In western NC mosquitos aren't too bad, but the gnats in the days AND evenings drive us in from outside, as they dive-bomb your eyes and (for me) provide a really painful welt when they bite. Can you survive outside here in the summer evenings??

Mosquitos for sure... but some bug spray helps and the late afternoon is the worst time of day

Speaking of mosquitos I killed one trying to "bite" me today. So it is not just during the summer that these little bugs are out to annoy you.

You pretty much have to have a screened porch to enjoy the outdoors from May-September (not just for the mosquitos, but also for having a fan to move air and a roof to keep the temp of the sun down). That said, luckily we have 2 screened porches at my house, both 16x12, one off the main level and one off the basement. THey are lifesavers.
