This may be a generalization, because in gereral it is a fact. you are the exception, and i'm willing to bet it is at least 7 miles out on road 10 -10, and i know this because i am working with one of the best brokers in the whloe wake county. He should me exactly that, a one acre home 7 miles out on a dark lonley road before you get to the nearest gas station. not very good at night or when my wife wants to go out and do things all the time. I find it interesting you didn't say where you bought your home. Please don't give the idea to people up north that they get get an acre of land that is close to everything. Even my broker agrees it's tough to find flat lots , which personally I don't think is asking too much. Mannsion? Happy Meal? Talk about making generalizations.
Bottom line is this two years ago it wa a good deal. Now it's getting to the point not worth it . Sorry your acre is not close to anything major, such you got an acre. I don't want my neighbors to know what kind of soap I'm using when I shower.

Sounds like you are right, the area is probably not for you. Probably should stay put "up there." It's not for everyone here. Best of luck to you.

Hey ts,
up here I don't have to look out for a major highway going through your back yard 540, and by the way know one wants to tell you where " it's really going " sewerage treatment plant, land fill, second one coming, what schools your kids are going to be going from one year to the next. .015 average uneven lots, getting very crowed down there. Anytime you have 8,000 kids coming into a school system year after year, you better wake up and smell the coffee, that is a sign that things could implode very fast.

Why are you so hostile?
I think part of the problem is that people expect Utopia when they come down here. It is very nice down here but not perfect by any means. There are a lot of big company's expanding down here so the job market is going to remain strong, thus real estate will be consistent. The real estate market might slow down here but it will never come to a screeching halt. You stated that 8000 kids a year are coming in, how can real estate slow with all these new kids coming in? Yeah, Wake County wasn't prepared but it will get fixed.

Don't Get Me Wrong Still A Good Value, But Prices Down There Are Going Up So Fast It's Making People Up Here Take A Second Look To See If It Is ' Really " Worth It To Make The Move. I Know Three Family's That Were Set To Go But After Checking Out The Prices, And Realizing That You Basicly Get Zero Property, And Not A Flat Yard To Be Found, That Maybe The Grass Is Not Greener On The Other Side. Just My Opinion Of Course.

Spot on. Heaven on earth simply doesn't exist. There are always trade-offs.

I honestly don't get the "no flat yards" thing. My yard is completely flat, most of my neighbors yards are flat... I can't think of more than 2 people I know in the area with a hill in their yard. Raleigh in general is not a mountainous or even a hilly area. It is one of the things I miss most about my hometown... Hmmm...

Looking for land
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My family and I are moving to the Raleigh area and are looking for land to build our new home. We are looking for a minimum of two acres in a rural area with no more than a 45 min drive to the Raleigh airport. We are looking to getaway from the 1/3 acre, overpriced community type living. We would also be interested in a fixer upper if it were in a nice neighborhood as long as it had the amount of land we were looking for.

This area has been growing explosively for 30 years. It will grow for quite a while yet. Living in a boomtown is good and bad. It isn't free of stresses to deal with, but can be very rewarding.
The answer to your flat lot predicament is in Wake County. Eastern Wake County. Southern Wake County. Wendell. Zebulon. Fuquay Varina. Willow Spring. Garner.
See, it is a matter of Geography. We are not in the mountains, but we are in the transitional zone to the Piedmont. Our topography rolls. 30 miles east, you are in the Coastal Plain. Flat. Some places are flat as far as the eye can see.
But you won't make Cary be something it isn't. It isn't flat.
But...Why would you leave paradise behind and move here anyway? Housing seems to be the worst reason, and, well, heck, I'm an agent.
We knew it was more expensive here than where we came from, but we came for the other items that are much more important to us for quality of life.

TS,
Who is being hostile? Just answering the questions honestly. Don't be so sensitive. This country has gone way over to the " don't say anything, you might offend everyone" Please we are all adults. Listen I agree with what you said in your last post, my point is it will no longer be a place to buy something afforable. In fact your point makes my point even stronger. So many people want to go there that it could become like Ca prices someday. And remember this people thought it would never slow down in fl Well I know lots of people who lost lots of money, down there and more who can't sell their houses. By the way how long before the taxes start going up in Cary? not very long. When they assess your property nexy year don't be surprised if you get a shocking bill, be real...who do you think is going to pay for all of this, growth you.....................

LOL. You are so funny. It doesn't bother me, we are on a public forum. But you have to admit you do sound a little in-different to the area. If you don't like the area then why are you patrolling these forums. Why did you think you wanted to move here? Just to buy cheap and then sell the house for double what you paid in 3 years? That isn't going to happen down here, never has, ever. This area may approach Ca prices someday but someday is a real general term. That could be 20 years from now, it won't be next year or 5 years from now, I can promise you that.
