I looked at the website for careington. You're right in that it does sound too good to be true. I don't have dental INS, so for me, this looks fabulous. How does it work, exactly?

I think it's 130 for the year then they send you ID cards. All you do is pick a dentist on the provider list(there are tons)and thats it.It will even tell you the exact amount you will be charged.I went to Dr. Vinod in Raleigh off creegmore rd/Lynn rd.Modern, clean ,state of the art office.I told them I had careington when I made my appointment and thats it.They charged me the careington plan rate for that procedure and I was thrilled!!My work came to 325 or so and I paid 131.

I'll certainly have to look into this. It's not that I begrudge paying for dental work, and most certainly see the value in hanging-onto one's teeth. I don't have dental INS, and am trying to help put a daughter through college right now, so money is a bit tight. When the dentist's office quoted $1400 per crown, I was a little speechless, but thought since it had been over a year since I had the root canal, and a year or two prior to that, two crowns, the cost of such had gone up like everything else.

My experience here, too, is that the two dentists I've been to, prior to this one, do not work with you on paying them. I've had to pay 1/2 up front, and the rest when the crown is complete. I was just spoiled by my former dentist, but am so grateful to him that he helped me improve my dental health and hygiene (my parents never took us), and worked hard to get my mouth in great shape. He did warn me that eventually I would need crowns on these molars with the large fillings -- and they have served me well all of these years.

I am most appreciative of the responses here. Could NOT believe the people in line to get either reduced, or free, dental care somewhere here in the Triangle -- I heard it on the news this a.m.

Sometimes it's better to just pull the tooth instead of a root canal and crown.

You can live without some of them very well.
