Seattle is next month...Hhahahaa...I've been there for business...its absolutely beautiful but it was cold. It was in the 60's in the middle of July....Coming from the hot midwest made it a big adjustment... I just like how Raleigh is positioned long term with the transplants from NY/NJ/DC/Boston relocating down and the close proxmity to it all including charlotte and atlanta....
I built my background to be diverse....sales, marketing, ecommerce, online media....I also have a ton of experience working for 2 fortune 100 companies so that helps....

-diverse economy
-diverse population
-high educated workforce
-got a little culture about them
-easy access to airports
-natural beauty - you have a ton here
-state parks
-low - moderate violent crime rates
-affordable housing
-great business environments - I'm looking to try and start my own business on the side...tired of waiting for corporate america to see my genius...hahahaha...god helps those who help themselves...

I don't think that NoVA and Raleigh are all the different from each other. Seattle is a different story.

City Data Russian Roulette
My 2 cents:
Northern Virginia: If your last name is Gates, Rockefeller or Forbes there are few places in the US that can compete with it.
Seattle: Heaven on earth for one month out of the year but the other 11 months explain why the area has such a high suicide rate.
Raleigh: Hey, we’ve ruined every other major eastern city let’s move on to North Carolina’s capital and see what kind of hate and discontent we can create there.

And the Grizz perpetuates the ignorant Southerner stereotype.

Really? You are our statics and demographic guru?
NoVa has a population of like 2.1 million. And the Triangle has a population of 1.4 million. (Raleigh is under 1 million. But it's not fair to compare a region to a city thus my numbers for region to region.) NoVa has about 700,000 more people than the Triangle.... that's almost the size of Raleigh.
Not to mention NoVa sits on top of DC which provides the environment of a large city... good mass transportation, world class entertainment (because it's the capital of the country), world class cuisine, and the list goes on. I'm not saying Raleigh (Triangle) doesn't have those things... well we don't have mass transportation worth a darn, but everything else is on a much smaller level.

Nova is expensive...lived in dc before...but the area has jobs and amenities. I didn't even recognize the area when i went back 2 weeks ago...the growth is amazing...
Seattle is only rainy and gray fro five-six months out of the year just like the midwest and northeast...
Raleigh -I grew up in Ohio...Raleigh's transplants are more than welcome to ruin my states cities with there highly educated brains, high income earning and tax paying selves...Oh please ruin my state by spending your taxable disposable income so we can rebuild our roads, create jobs and have things like a police force, state of the art healthcare system, and attract the top educators in the country...its horrible I tell you...these transplants are a cancer...Ohio is not envious at all...hey so what 5 cities made the top 20 most miserable to live in.....

Okay most of those make sense.
Seattle will probably be the least diverse in terms of population (in regards to race, but the population is very diverse in terms of differing levels of mobility and life styles, more so than Raleigh.)
Raleigh does have a "a little culture" but not as much as Seattle & NoVa, imho..... others will disagree.
Natural beauty and state parks.... well just wait 'til you visit Seattle. Don't miss Hurricane Ridge or the San Juan's while you are in that area.
Affordable Housing.... I think what you consider affordable will affect this but Raleigh is by far the most affordable of the 3.
I find that this area has just enough of the things that I'm looking for. So I get that it doesn't always have to be the top in each category.... that would be.... well nirvana. Good luck with your search.

Just doing my part to keep everyone entertained.
Actually I’m a transplant to the South but I was born in NoVA (Alexandria to be exact) lived just outside of Washington, DC for 28 years and have vacationed in Seattle. In fact, my wife and I are going to Oregon for our vacation this year.

I hate to say this but I like No VA better than here. Oh well I like the ability to get into a big city.
