I'm a single girl too, and 28 years old - at least for another week - from NNJ/NYC and am also looking to move to the area sometime this year. After being turned down for a promotion that wasn't much anyway and the rising costs of transportation and cutting service from the transportation, I saw this as a sign that I should leave. Good luck with your move!!!

I moved here from Los Angeles, there is a profound difference in how friendly people are in NC. Big difference. Ooh, Del Mar is nice though! Raleigh isn't a super walkable city at the moment, but some of us are trying to change that. Glenwood South is the area with all the bars, I'd look for a place in the Glenwood-Brooklyn neighborhood if you're looking for walking distance to the more Pacific Beach type bars. Downtown Raleigh has a ton of bars too, anything walking distance to downtown, Moore Square area gives you lots of nightlife options.

You're trying to start WWIII, aren't you?

Raleigh is safer, cleaner, and more updated.

Durham is grittier and has a pretty ballpark. Some like grit.

Durham is only 40 minutes away or so. You can always visit Durham to take advantage of the good things. You don't have to live there.

Commence arguing...

Be prepared for culture shock and an extreme weather adjustment. You'll need to be here to understand.
Best luck

Yeah I bet! I am coming out to NC to visit my folks in Pinehurst in June. We are going to spend a day or two getting a better understanding of Raleigh and making sure I like it! I will be flying in and staying the night, then they will meet me the foloowing afternoon. Any suggestions for an affordable downtown Raleigh hotel? or somewhere that is centrally located enough to walk around alone or take a short cab? Just lookin to grad dinner and a beer and walk around a bit, safely! Thanks guys
