Wasn't there also a bad fire in Rolesville that caused a neighboring SFH to burn as well because the houses were built too closely together? That's the #1 reason I'm not interested in living in new construction where the houses are jammed together with nothing in the way of setbacks. Sorry to hear about everyone who lost their homes yesterday. At least no lives were lost.
Drove by the subdiv this am on way to Wake Forest. I turn onto Forestville from 401 so the sub was on my left just before my turn. It looks like the houses were facing or backed onto an area set back from 401. I saw one house that was 1/2 gone and charred black but some of it was still standing. I saw no other homes next to it from my street view. Don't know how many ended up burned to the ground? it's so sad. And, yes, a negative for sure living in newer built subdivisions.
This just proves you can't trust what the media reports is true. 8 houses? Nope. Only 3 houses burned. Two were fully involved and the roof and side of the 3rd house was burning when the fire dept. arrived. Need proof? Pics:

Under PSI - thx for sharing. Your post has comments that say the fire dept had water pressure problems..hmm? It's strange that there are at least 3 fire depts within a 3-4 mins emergency drive from the subdiv. The one on buffaloe, one on New Hope Rd at 401, One on Forestville and I think one further up Forestville on the west side of the subdiv.
Was the reason the homes burned this badly because nobody saw it until it was engulfed?
I think it is crazy to think that they would ever outlaw pinestraw, that will never happen.
I'm not so sure about that. I see some leanings.
For example, townhomes in Apex are no longer allowed to use pinestraw near the buildings. So the subdivisions had to switch to mulch (at a 50% increase in cost). It would be better to outlaw smoking near the pine straw and the buildings! In my opinion, it's not "stupid pine straw" as much as it is "stupid littering irresponsible smokers". Smokers throwing cigarettes off balconies and out windows and off decks is a MAJOR problem for managers at townhomes and condos. You'd think throwing their nasty butts all over the streets would be enough for them, but no- they want to come home and ruin their neighborhoods too. Disgusting.
