Photos ~ Historic Hope Valley ~ Durham
Inspired by the photo thread, today I took photos in the historic Hope Valley as well as of houses in the streets surrounding the most historic section. Look below for websites about Hope Valley, and an exerpt from one of them. I'd love to hear which photos (houses) are people's favorites I've conveniently numbered them I love driving through the Hope Valley area (which includes several neighborhoods, including the original golf course community). The only other suburban area I've found as beautiful so far is in and around Sunset Ridge in Holly Springs
I found a website that exclusively links to homes for sale in the various Hope Valley neighborhoods. Click on any of the little house photos along the top of this web page to see all the listings available in the Hope Valley area.

I also took photos of Sunningdale, Hope Valley Green, and Hope Valley Farms (all in the generalized Hope Valley area) but there were so many photos I put them in a separate thread:

Preservation Durham, North Carolina - Durham's Historic Neighborhoods
Hope Valley retains stately roots, a challenging course - Triangle Business Journal:
An excerpt:
Hope Valley was Durham's first full-fledged country club suburb, developed around an 18-hole golf course in the late 1920s. Traces of the farms that occupied the land in the 19th Century remain around the suburban landscape developed by the Mebane Company to attract the newly successful young professionals that were thriving with Durham's tobacco, textile, and health care industries. The golf course was designed to allow the most houses facing it, and the Norman Provincial style clubhouse was designed by Milburn and Heister.
The early homes in Hope Valley are an eclectic mix of revival styles popular in the 1920s and 1930s: Tudor, English Cottage, Colonial, Norman Provincial, and even Spanish. Winding, narrow roads conforming to the hilly terrain weave their way throughout the neighborhood.
Here are the photos! Look carefully at each photo. The homes are so detailed, with beautiful architectural upgrades, and amazing landscaping.
House 1 - This house is visible from Hope Valley Road (highway 751) and faces the golf course.
House 2 - look at that great chimney!
House 3 - stunning house, faces the golf course
House 4 - I love red doors with blue shutters. And those adorable tiny trees!
House 5 - lovely driveway
House 6 - do you love the blue doorway or hate it?
House 7 - check out the curly iron decorations at the bottom outer corner of each shutter
House 8 - look at the door, and the oval medallion above it.
House 9 - A car came driving down the circular driveway the instant after I took the picture. I hope they didn't catch me
House 10 - This yellow house was ginormous - and for sale - I couldn't even get all of the side of it in the first photo. The second photo is of the front, but you can barely see the house b/c it is so heavily treed. Actually it was difficult to find houses to take clear photos of b/c Hope Valley is so thickly treed. I took photos of this one anyway just to show how big many of the houses in the area were. They often had a lot of depth to them and the size wasn't apparent from the front. The larger ones are multi million dollar homes.
House 11 - love the doorway
Hope you enjoyed your tour of Hope Valley!

Excellent post, Indigoblue! Too bad the system won't allow me to give you even more reputation points, because you clearly deserve them.

photo 8 - the doorway makes me think hobbit house. lord of the rings transplant lol
blue door. love it. it's just a pop of color. And it's not hideous like our neighbors with their neon purple front door, neon purple shudders, and neon purple garage door, with their white siding and green roof. uggg gag gasp. needless to say their house has been on the market for a year and hasn't sold. umm I wonder why? lol

How much???
I liked #1, 3 & 5...although I could see myself living in a house like #5. The first two are probably too big for my needs, and budget.
GREAT pics!
