Hello,

I am relatively new to this area.

I am looking for a public area where I can practice golf short game. I am looking for a place where there are not many people and has some level areas. No, I won't be using real golf balls to drive. I may use real golf balls for chipping and pitching only (less than 75 yards).

Can someone tell me if
1. Is it legal to practice golf in a public ground such as the Bond Park in Cary?
2. Do you know of areas in or around Cary where I can practice golf.

I know there are good places like Knight's play and I go there too but need a place where I can practice without any distractions.

Thanks in advance.

I saw a couple people chipping golf balls at Dorothea Dix when I was up there metal detecting, last week. I'm sure you can find a place to chip there. You should be able to work on your short and mid iron game with no problem. In fact there's a few places where you can even use your driver.

If you intend to practice golf in a public place, you may need some liability insurance just on the off chance you hit someone. There is a difference between practicing in a place such as a driving range, (which probably has insurance) and a a place where peole do not have an expectation (awareness) of the potential of being hit by a golf ball

If you practice in an area where there are no distractions , how will that effect your performance when you play on a course with many distractions - I think you should train as you expect to play, at least under the same conditions.

Buy a small catch net and chip in the yard, practice driving and pitching at the driving range which has realistic targets

hope that helps

Also be aware, if you are practicing golf in a public park, some middle-aged woman may come along and whack you upside the head.

Yep, you can practice in the park here, you might even see me across from you doing my weekly target practice...don't worry, they are rubber bullets

What's wrong with a driving range?

saving $5 I guess - mind the liability insurance might prove more expensive than the cost of a bucket of balls, especially since there is a high chance of a dog in the park chasing a golf ball and swallowing it - just think of the vet bills that he would be liable for if that happened
