I heard from good authority that the following is happening in Raleigh:
Some people posing as City of Raleigh employees are knocking on doors and telling the residents that they are there to inspect the house and property to see if it is currently valued correctly. They tend to prey on the elderly.
Once they get inside a residence, one of the "inspectors" keeps the residents busy while the other one goes about inspecting the house. What he actually does is go through each room looking for things to steal.
When the "inspectors" leave, the unsuspecting elderly residents discover that they have been robbed.
Raleigh does not send out people to evaluate your property. All city employees have identification badges with name and photo. They are supposed to show their ID and ask your permission to come on your property.
Call 911 immediately if you anyone comes to your door with that story.
Raleigh police always highly encourages its residents to call them immediately if there is any question at all. The non-emergency number is 831-6311.
Please spread the word.

Some senior citizens do. They grew up in a world with fewer rotten people and are more likely to trust people.
