My husband bought a new car yesterday and traded in his old car, which he owned outright. He is suppose to bring the title for his old car in on Monday, but I can't find it anywhere.
What's going to happen on Monday when we tell them we have to apply for a duplicate title? I understand that it takes about 3 weeks to get a duplicate title, is that right? The trade-in was for $13k, if that matters. We bought the car new 5 years ago and paid cash for it, and to be honest, I don't remember receiving the title for it from that dealership??? (But it has been 5 years). He's going to be heartbroken if he has to give the car back on Monday. Has anyone ever been in this situation?
Thanks for any advice given.

Call your salesman. Explain the situation. I imagine they'll have a solution for you...they don't want that car back. If they won't work with you just take it back. Then get your title for the old car, and go to a different dealership (title in hand), and get a new car.

First I have to say it baffles me why anyone would trade in a car. It's not that hard to sell yourself and, IMO, is worth it when you stand to make thousands of dollars more than what a stealership offers you. Just something to keep in mind.
You can apply for an instant title. However, the fee is/was $50. I would just call them and inform them of the situation and see what they say.
