I agree with the people who suggested craigslist, that's the way to go. If you aren't getting any nibbles then your price is too high - it's that simple. There's no need to spend money on autotrader unless your car is something special (your 2001 maxima isn't). Also, even though craigslist says not to, you need to repost your car every few days to keep the listing fresh. Good luck!
Wow! Pretty amazing that someone would ask you to drive a
car to them so they could test-drive. That's a new one. Did
they offer to pay your mileage (probably not).
I just sold a car on there (craigslist) in 5 minutes, it had no engine or transmission in it either. Craigslist is great for selling stuff that is lower priced and cash only, as long as you price reasonably. People tend to add about $1,000 to the price of the cars it seems. A 15 year old Volvo w/ 230,000 miles on it isn't worth $2500 (current listing) no matter what Kelly Blue Book says.
I gave the car a good bath and took lots of photos on a day with great lighting. I posted LOTS of photos in my ad, all the specs, and any additional info I would want to see as a buyer. I think if you use the "add photo" button on craigslist it only lets you add four photos, but there are other ways to add as many as you like using html tags and photosharing sites like photobucket.
Really good advice, as most people don't do this. Then they get pissed when you don't want to drive 45 mins to go look at a car that has 4 2" pictures of it. Whatever...there will always be another car.
If you take good pictures and your car shows well, and price accordingly, you will sell your car FAST on craigslist. Within a day or two.
