While on 540W a police officer flew by me probably over 100mph. When I got to the end of 540 where it intersects with 64 on the way out to Wilson it looked like a war scene. There were probably 20 cops, 3 or 4 fire trucks, EMS. I couldn't see much but did see several of the responders on the edge looking down off the road. For those who are not aware 540 ends abruptly and there is a big loop to get on 64. The weird thing was that there are 3 barricades at the end and they were untouched and I didn't see skid marks. It had to have been witnessed because if it wasn't then there would have been no way to tell someone went off the road.
Does wral or anyone ever include accident reports? Did anyone see it this morning? It was very eerie.
So now they're trying to "do something" about the "dangerous spot."
The only thing they should do is actually teach people to drive. If this driver along with a lot of others were actually paying attention this wouldn't have happened. YOU HAVE ONE JOB AND ONE JOB ONLY WHILE DRIVING AND THAT IS TO PAY ATTENTION!! PUT DOWN THE PHONE. PUT DOWN THE CHEESEBURGER OR MILKSHAKE. PUT DOWN THE MAKEUP. PUT DOWN THE EFF'ING NEWSPAPER.
Agree and +1 to both above. I normally drive, but on a recent trip to Charlotte, I took the passenger seat. I spent the trip looking out the window. I can't believe I normally drive next to these people. On a 3 hour trip, I passed people who were doing the following while driving:
looking on the floor for something and swerving repeatedly into neighboring lanes for at least a 2 mile stretch
reading and juggling a stack of loose printed out pages up against the steering wheel
READING A PAPERBACK BOOK- I kid you not
programming a GPS
texting/ dialing
and countless people on the phone or eating or BOTH.
