I know Italian is your preference, but my wife and I have had four great anniversary dinner's in a row at the following restaurants....I would highly recommend them all.

2007 - Magnolia in Durham - Top notch food, but rather loud and impersonal inside

2008 - Bin 54 in Chapel Hill - best steaks in the triangle, and modern but intimate decor

2009 - An in Cary - Our personal favorite. We did a 5 course Chef's tasting menu with wine pairing. Phenomenal wouldn't begin to describe it, but we both love Asian food.

2010 - Revolution in Durham - Food was great, but the service didn't quite live up to the food. Feels like a NYC restaurant.

You can have a great Italian meal at Vivace in North Hills, and both the food and wine are very reasonably priced.

Good luck, and congratulations on the anniversary!

There are many good restaurants in this area. My top choice for a nice "date" place is Nana's in Durham. It is in my view one of the most intimate, and quiet restaurants that is perfect for a nice evening with your beloved. Many of the other very nice restaurants can be loud and bustling (but are still very good).

My second choice is Elaine's in Chapel Hill.

second empire. we've attended two holiday celebration dinners there & had our wedding reception but due to circumstances have not returned yet for an anniversary evening. but we've had several friends celebrate their special occasions & they find it top-notch. they will also customize your menu with your names & celebration information so that you have a keepsake.

Not Italian, but definitely romantic - Melting Pot in Raleigh on Wake Forest Road. I know, it's a chain... but it's a lovely dinner, they have meals designed to share, and it's a great time to sit and talk, since dinner takes a few hours.

I was hesitant to recommend Melting Pot because "it is a chain"...but it is as above stated, a great idea.

We also liked "Rey's" in Cary. It is quiet, romantic, 'fancy'. and wonderful food/service. It was voted "Most Romantic Restaurant" in Cary Mag.

Depends....are you looking for a trendy/hip restaurant or a more traditional old school romantic spot?
