$1.5 M sounds like a lot. But $300k/yr for 5 yrs isn't much. It's a drop in the bucket of Raleigh's budget.
I agree with others who say that to name it after the co or family name of the company's founder/owner rather than the product sounds better - hence the Busch Gardens name being acceptable. I can't get beyond Buuuhd Lite....
And, Raleigh has always billed itself as a great place for families, naming it after a beer doesn't fit with that image.
This is the kind of crap that happens when the government mixes with the private sector. The city shouldn't even be in the entertainment providing business. Sell the amphitheatre to a private company at market value, use that money to pay for government services and let the new owner of the amphitheatre name it whatever they want. Then let the free market decide if the name is good for business or not.
Seems like everyone is forgetting these names just get reduced down to some acronym or nickname, does anyone say they're "going to catch a show at the Durham Performing Arts Center"? Too many syllables... too much effort, it's DPAC.
To that end, BLA doesn't strike me as a tremendous acronym. Sounds a little... blah.
Maybe the Bud Light Ampitheather In Raleigh - now I wouldn't mind catching a show at the BLAIR.

Tell that to all of the unemployed people. It's the 21st century, get over it. Most children probably know what bud light is before they're 6.
just to add my 2 cents, the fuss over a beer company name is stupid in my opinion. it's beer, not crack. people drink it. your kids are going to drink it at some point. let's not pretend everything needs to be sanitized and "safe" for people to function. that being said, wtf.... the bud light ampitheater? why not just name it "the trailer trash, nascar fan, and baby daddy event center," for all the class it adds to our city? not to mention that we have a cool, developing culture of local microbreweries, and this is just a slap in the face to all of that. i understand we need the help with funding, and that big boss isnt gonna shell out 50 mil to have their name on the sign. surely there must be *something* better than that though.

beer isn't anti-family. many families in many cultures across the country and the world drink beer together. responsibility is the key, not hiding it...

Hmmm, almost everyone I know who drinks beer is part of a "family"
Raleigh bills itself as a great place for business and for young singles, as well. Surely not everything the city does has to be censored down to the kindergarten level lest we be "non-Family Friendly"?
BTW, I hate the Bud Light name personally, but playing of the "Family" card every time something other than Dr. Seuss is brought up in any context is so tiresome. I guess we're going to see all of these "families" move elsewhere unless we name it the "Sesame Street Amphitheatre"? http://boards.sonypictures.com/boards/images/smilies/shake.gif (broken link)
