Has anyone attended the kick off seminar in the past? The program says its from 9-12, do you think it's necessary or worth it to stay for 3 hours? I'm hoping to join this program, but 3 hours for a seminar seems long.

For those that have completed the program, what did you think? I use to run regularly, but haven't in a while so I need a group to help motivate me. Do you run/walk throughout the entire program or just in the beginning?

Thanks

I don't know the answer to your first question, but in answer to your last question: I'm pretty sure that they run/walk throughout. That's part of Galloway's whole philosophy.

I did several beginning running programs at Fleet Feet. They have a choice of groups (run/walk or run at various paces) and are very supportive. Several people there had done Galloway and told me about it, but I've never done it.

Hubby, and a running buddy here where we live, made it over to the NCMA for the Galloway kick-off. He found it most informative, and the 3 hours apparently wasn't wasted as much of the audience had a number of good questions.

He was also treated to some goodies, including a Tshirt, visor, couple of pair of socks, and coupons good towards running shoes and accessories. I think he intends to join the group. He was happy when he ran a mini-marathon a few weekends back, in time to move out of the 'handicapped' or injured category -- he has been recovering from fairly extensive clavicle surgery to repair a bad break sustained in a bicycling accident on the greenway. That, and he had knee surgery.

We live in a neighborhood full of health-conscious individuals, who run, walk, bike, swim, and support one another in their efforts to get, and stay, healthy. So refreshing. Several of the folks here have plans to participate in some runs in the next several months.

The only negative I have heard from any of the guys who attended was that some were a bit dismayed that the Galloway group 'trashed' the barefoot running some of the fellows ascribe to -- Galloway says it's a 'fad,' which it may very well be, but went so far as to say it was the glove-style running shoe company's attempt to sell shoes. Seems "the jury" is still out on the concept of running barefoot, at best.

I went to the kick off, and liked what I heard. They will have several free runs over the next week or two which should let people see if it is for them or not. I am the repaired runner rdslots mentioned in the last post, and went because my surgeon said if I was going to get back to my old running level I needed to start with a group that had a history of not letting you hurt yourself.
I was worried I would be put in an injured class. I think now I will be placed in a regular slow running group. I run several times a week, and have finished one race long enough to allow me to keep my head up anyway. It is a run/walk method which will cut you marathon time if “you practice as they tell you”. I think it will be hard to run 3 or 5 min than fast walk 3 to 5 min. over and over again, but see where it would stop you from hitting the wall at the 20 mile mark. If you want a copy of their schedule DM me with a fax # and I will send you a copy. My guess is this years running group will have between 600 and 800 people in lots of different running levels. It should be fun, and they have lots of running doctors if you can’t follow instructions.
