The latest State of the Air report has rates Wake county with a D in particle pollution while Orange county gets an A. Wake gets an F in Ozone while Orange has no rating there.
Does anyone have any insight into how the air quality compares between Chapel Hill and Cary? Are the county level ratings a good indicator or is that not granular enough?
Orange County is much less populous than Wake County and has much less vehicle traffic. More densely populated areas within either county are probably going to have worse air quality.
Counties are pretty big areas, but Chapel Hill is the largest metro area in Orange and Raleigh/Cary is the largest in Wake, so take that and extrapolate it how you wish. Cary is basically Raleigh in this sense, air quality will be much lower due to the larger auto traffic and greater rush hours.
