NRG....definitely get a pretzel from the German baker--they're REAL and very good:
"Annelore’s German Bakery
German professional Chef Annelore Gstattenbauer brings more than 30 years of culinary experience to the market. Annelore bakes authentic German pastries of the finest quality and sophistication and also offers genuine Bavarian Lye Pretzels – a truly unique find in the Triangle. Being a certified vendor to WHOLE FOODS MARKET® Annelore’s products are proven to be wholesome and adhere to the most stringent quality standards in the industry." (from the WWFM site)
The thing I like best about this farmer's market is that while some markets don't have strict rules about sourcing, WWFM requires that sellers have produced or made the things they sell themselves. It's all local.
Also, they have a drop off donation site for the Interfaith Food Shuttle. I dropped by last weekend with a big bag of my homegrown, pesticide-free snap peas; we just had a banner crop and I had more than we could eat. What better use for them?
Annelore's sells at the State Farmer's too and they are WONDERFUL and they have the same rules about being local (not that I am trying to pit one FM against the other, but just to clarify for other readers that both require local vendors).
Spain Farms is at Western Wake and Durham Farmer's Market and Uptown Market in Raleigh. They have wonderful, fresh shiitake mushrooms among other things. They supposedly have cabrito (young goat) as well but we've never had a chance to try yet!
Not sure if anyone else has seen this, but the WWFM is going to have to find a new place starting in March 2012 because the landowner will be building new residential units at the current Carpenter Village location.
They are trying to work out something with the Town of Cary on some land they own that is slated for a park at M-C and Louis Stevens. The idea would be to build a true permanent market with some educational stuff and park as well. There are a couple of meetings July 18 and 19 about the Parks Plan where community support may be helpful.
