I don't understand your question. Raleigh's population was estimated to have passed 400,000 with the July 2008 census estimates.

I think you might be confusing Raleigh with Charlotte....which has done a lot more to annex its way to population thresholds than Raleigh ever thought about doing.
That said, it's not a done deal that Raleigh is at 400K yet. Based on past Census counts, my guess is that the official Census number will be close but shy of 400K. I am not sure that Raleigh has been particularly aggresive as of late to add land. I actually think that the population has been growing faster relative to the rate of land acquisition. The city population is denser than it was in 2000.

Estimated 392,083 as of January 2010. Based on previous estimates, we'll probably hit 400k this fall. I'm curious where the census numbers will fall as compared to the estimates, though. Wouldn't it be funny if the census numbers came out and set up back to 375k?

Not funny but not unexpected as many will not return their Census forms.
I expect Raleigh will not be 400K after the official Census results are published.
I don't think 375K is in order but I do expect it to be nearer 390K.

And those of us who didn't turn it in got a lovely visit from the Census people. Does anyone know if no one was home will they keep returning until they get someone?

Census workers are supposed to return 3 times, and telephone 3 times, until they speak with someone in order to survey the household.

Thanks CH. I figured they were probably pretty consistent and that the Census would be pretty accurate.

Why didn't you return it?
I am curious. The short form took me all of 5 minutes.

Because I didn't want to. It wasn't until I threw it out that I found out they come to your house.
