Hillsborough Hog Day

"While barbecue is the basis of the festival, fun for the whole family is the focus. A variety of activities are held each year as part of Hog Day: fun contests, including Hog Hollering, and Guess the Weight of the Pig contests; the area's largest antique car show, an arts & crafts area with more than 100 vendors; and a children's area featuring activities and rides. Hillsborough Hog Day also offers regionally and nationally known musicians, live on stage throughout the kickoff party on Friday night and all day on Saturday."

And of course Ed Mitchell the Pitmaster will be there again to help judge 31 different barbecues!

Ed Mitchell is amazing too. My son used to bartend at the Pitt for him in downtown Raleigh. What an awesome place. I hear he's tough to beat.

Thumbs up Triangle Happenings -- June, 2010

For those of you who live in North Raleigh in the vicinity of Bedford/Falls River and the Durant Road area, did you know that the Falls River Town Center (The shopping Center with the Ace Hardware) has a free outdoor Summer Concert Series? THey host local music acts every THursday night in the summer from 7-9pm. People come and set up their chairs and blankets on the lawn in the traffic circle in the parking lot just outside of Amazing Tone Music. There are usually lots of families with kids there. I've been a little dissapointed that the folks organizing this don't really advertise the events very well becasue I think this is a great addition to the area that not many people know about. Free music early on a weeknight is a very good thing IMO.

Tonight's artists is Chris Hendricks, a local musician from Durham. I've heard him play at a few open mics and he is a fantastic musician and an amazing person. I'm looking forward to catching his free show tonight! You can hear a sample of his work and learn more about his story in the video below.
