Well, I've not been able to make it to Rapid City yet, meanwhile I've been hous hunting a little.
Anybody ever been to Hill City? Pretty much dead center of the Black Hills. It's a tiny quaint little town with around 1,000 total people living there.
Hill City is a very nice little community. It has great schools. It's in the middle of the best deer hunting in the Black Hills. Short drive to outstanding fishing. It has decent shopping, however you would run into Rapid City for most items (better selection, better prices).
Are you planning on living there and working in Rapid?
Initially, I was planning on living and working in Rapid City. I've only been browsing around neighboring cities and towns for fun, but some places are lookoing very very tempting for a quieter living atmosphere. I'm not sure what there is for work in Hill City, but I imagine that find a job would be very very hard.
Service industry is about the only jobs available in Hill City. The drive to Rapid City isn't too bad, even in the winter. Lots of folks in Hill City do it every day and don't have problems.
Have you visited the Hermosa area? It's South of Rapid City and is also a nice little community that is quiet.
Hill City, Custer, Edgemont are all nice. Course, there's always Lead/Deadwood, Spearfish, and Hot Springs. Those are all in the "Hills". For mountains you have to travel much further.
My dad's driven from Rapid City to Hill City for years. He's the chef at a restaurant up there, the Alpine Inn. It's not a bad drive. We lived there when I was a kid.
