thinking of moving to the RC area
My family currently resides in the great state of "new jersey" and for obvious reasons we are looking to leave. The cost of living here has just spiraled out of control and it only continues to get worse. We have vacationed to Custer, Spearfish and the Rapid City area several times and just find the area to be absolutely beautiful and relaxing. The area seems to be a great environment to raise a family, we have triplet 8 year olds. Can anyone who lives in these areas give me information on the schools, decent housing and employment? My husband and I both work in the healthcare fields and would like to continue to do so, what is the job situation in the local healthcare industry? The weather isn't really a concern to me, although I have heard there is a "buggy" problem but I am not sure what that means if someone could fill me in on that it would be appreciated. We are considering coming out and spending a month or more to get a better feel for it, but I can't imagine not wanting to just stay forever. Any information that will be appreciated.

I might suggest that you look through some of the other threads as a lot of your questions have been answered many times.
Custer is not going to have much for medical care. Spearfish is a college town which is very busy in the winter, and due to tourists seems to do very well during the summer. Rapid City is going to be your best bet as it has major healthcare available.

I will add, with healthcare, the hospitals in Custer and Spearfish are tied in with Rapid City Regional hospital.

Thanks for your input. I have been reading other posts and they seem not to be real current, but I will continue to look thru them.

The cost of living isn't as bad as NJ, but it certainly is expensive compared to most places I've lived. I pay more in rent for an older home than I did in las Vegas. Food and eating out is more expensive as well. No state ibcome tax is nice though.

The schools are ok, but won't compare to the options you have out there
