Interesting how a city in that general location of the U.S. would not see much snow. It's not a big deal. Yeah, I like to see snow, but I can just as easily deal without it. Some of the cities I've considered moving to get very little, if any, snow at all. Portland was the other city at the top of my list, and it doesn't snow there, either. Heck, just to get away from the oppressive humidity of the Ohio Valley would be enough to make me ecstatic.

Any other interesting things about the area.....restaurants with local specialties, quirky shops, local customs...?

No, nothing special. Course, when you drive up needles highway, you must honk your horn and touch the roof of the car when you pass through a tunnel.

In Rapid City, finding a place to rent is not difficult. There is an infinite variety of apartments and townhomes to choose from and most are very nice. Try apartments on the southside or westside. Northside apartments are kind of run down and most are low-income housing. People are very welcoming to a newcomer and people are neighborly. If you ever needed to borrow a cup of sugar from your neighbor they wouldn't even hesitate to give it to you and they'd expect the same.

Shopping in Rapid City is adequate. There is a new mall being built along I-90 that will have many new stores and restaurants to choose from. There are several 10 screen theaters. Parks run along Rapid Creek out of the mountains. Rapid City is very scenic.

Hot, dry summers. Cold, dry winters. Short springs. Short falls.
You will really need to expand the wardrobe!

i am a senior citizen, i am not gay, not judgemental, and have friends of all kinds. i look at people as souls in human bodies. i lived in rapid for couple years and now in spearfish not far from rapid. a lot of weather goes around spearfish. a number of smaller communities have cheaper rentals if you have a car. winter rates by the week or month at some motels are available in winter due to lack of tourists. there are several small newspapers that advertise these places more so than rapid city journal. black hills prospector paper is free. i think the lawrence county paper has a charge, not sure. belle fouche near spearfish has cheap rentals and some in spearfish. low income assistance avail. lots of job openings for motel help, casino help, etc. around area that i see advertised. a bus comes thru spearfish in the mornings and goes to rapid and comes back evenings. spearfish has a beautiful city park, with spearfish creek running thru. lots of deer, wild turkeys, and occasional mtn. lion.

I love how if you are opposed to the homosexual agenda then you are labeled as close minded or judgmental. It's like there is something wrong with you if you don't automatically embrace that deviant lifestyle.

Sorry, but I'm a Christian and I'm not going to apologize for it. I want to move to SD because it is a good, conservative, family state. One of the few left.

Go to Portland, you'll fit right in. Go ahead and flame me, I don't care. I'm sick of leftists and homosexuals moving to more and more remote places, FORCING everyone to accept their lifestyle as equally valid with Judeo-Christian family values.

Well it's not. No one is born a homosexual. That is a lifestyle they choose because of childhood sexual abuse, sexual deviancy, or mental illness. There are thousands of recovered homosexuals. I suggest you seek treatment and get right with the Lord.

P.S. - Why leave Ohio? I live here too and this place is overrun with homosexuals. Heck, even the churches here fly rainbow flags.

Where do you get that he is forcing you to accept his lifestyle? Did he say anything about moving to Rapid City and announcing to everyone there that he has arrived and they're going to have to accept it?

In reality, you are the one forcing HIM to accept your lifestyle of ignorant Christianity. You tell him to seek "help" for his "sinful, sick lifestyle". What has he told you? No one asked you to judge him. He just wants to know about Rapid City.

Keep your ignorance to yourself!

God bless you, ulsterscot! I say that because it's what I, as a Christian, have been commanded to do by the Lord I worship - Jesus Christ - when confronted by one I perceive to be my enemy. Perhaps you need to reread Luke 6, if you are indeed going to call yourself a Christian.

It's too bad you said those things you did, because you truly made a serious judgment call that was in error, and if you'd like, I will send you a DM to explain why.

At least one of you lives up to what your "preaching".....Seems to me that I read somewhere once or twice that it is not our place to judge others....

I think he also said something about "loving the sinner, but hating the sin"....

Do I agree with the homosexual agenda or its beliefs, no I don't, but it's not my place to judge them either. I have no idea what they think or how they feel. I do know that if everyone was just a bit more tolerant, the world would be a better place.

Moderate or conservative does not mean intollerant....

JMHO....

Hardly. But I might add that I've been celibate for 15 years. How many other men, gay or straight, can say that?

It really wasn't my intention to turn this thread into yet another debate about homosexuality. So I'm not going to say anything else about this publicly. Check your DMs.

And the mods may as well close this thread now. I've pretty much gained all the information I was seeking.
