I made my second trek to Rapid City during cooler months. Long ago I spent Thanksgiving in Rapid but this year I visited near Christmastime. The weather wasn't too bad and I managed to survive 10 degrees outside for a bit of time. I didn't have snow boots so my feet kept getting a bit damp which drove me crazy. If I do move to Rapid I do plan on buying a pair of boots.

Will write more later but I wanted everyone to know I did make the trip and I LOVED it. Can't wait to be back to South Dakota soon.

This has been the toughest winter in a long time. If you liked it this year, you will love it under normal conditions.

Thanks! We drove through Hot Springs (hubby grew up near Oral but went to Hot Springs for shopping, etc.) and Hot Springs has changed a bit. No more Pamida. Saw some new businesses too. Other stuff stayed about the same.

We saw two Elk cows on State Highway 79 on our trip to Hot Springs the morning we left.

Still loving South Dakota. Back to debating whether it will be Arizona or South Dakota when it comes to retirement.

Pamida has gone the way of Montgomery Wards. ShopKo bought them out about a year and a half ago. Monday morning is was -13. I've never liked winter, but this bitter cold can kiss my hairy posterior.

For May. Cold and snow if the current trend continues.

Me too! This winter has been one for the record books. I just got back from a week in Phoenix and I was not looking forward to coming home just in time for a blizzard on March 31. Good gawd!

They were actually already owned by the same company. They decided it would be smarter to operate as one retailer,. They are no longer opening Shopkos in urban market because of all the competition from Target Walmart etc, but are opening more Shopko Hometown stores in large towns/small cities.
