Hi everyone! I'm moving to Rapid City in December from Oregon. I would like to know if there are any well-kept apartments in a good, safe area in Rapid City fairly close to the Regional Hospital as I am doing my residency there. It's just my husband and I but would like two bedrooms, one or two baths. Any advice or places people have seen or lived in would be great. If living further out, such as Harmony Heights, how is the commute in the snow? Thanks everyone for the help!

Harmony Heights is probably not a good choice for you because it is surrounded by industry. Stoney Creek Highlands is owned by the same company and better quality for a little more. There are lots of places in all directions within blocks of Regional that are very good. Kahler Properties is holding a lot of large houses in that area right now due to expansion plans by a senior care provider just south of there.

Try Bridgewood Estates. They're older but very nice, safe, and clean and very close to the hospital. I believe they're on Minnesota Ave. Don't worry about the snow. When it snows nobody travels. They just shut down everything. LOL Couldn't get out of the driveway last year after the blizzard for three days.

I would have to disagree with you on the snow - or at least offer a correction. When it snows A LOT, nobody travels. Less than 3 feet, however, and the city is out clearing the main roads. If you live in a neighborhood or subdivision, your road might not be cleared immediately, but they will get to it. Travel in town during snow is usually fine - as long as you know how to drive in it.

Atlas is a rare exception. A shut down the city storm hits every 5 to 10 years. It is very rare for that much snow in that short amount of time.

The Friday that Atlas hit, I started out for work near Piedmont about 6:30 with the goal of getting there my 8. I made it a mile when he boss called and told me to not even bother coming in. They closed the interstate to Sturgis. It was repeated Saturday and Sunday.

Search and Resuce will shuttle physicians and other emergency worked via snowcat or snowmobile. Or, you hunker down. Those are worst case situations.

Wow! Great thank you for the advise. So it might be better for my husband and I find a place near the hospital then? Rain, snow or shine I do have to be punctual to the hospital.

Just leave early. My dad always taught me, twice the distance for stopping and half the speed. It has served me well. 60 years old, 46 of them as a licenses driver and no accidents.

You'll do fine, just be mindful.
