OMG, it's usually higher in the Hills, but I had no idea it's that high. It's 3.10 here. That's high enough. Actually, we have a scooter, but unfortunately it hurts my back to ride it so it won't be with us long.
We are planning on relocating to a warmer climate and I'm seriously considering using public transit. I really don't like to drive, but of course I've had to my entire life cause we really have so little public transit here. They had a bit of a news story last night that said more people in Sx. Falls are starting to use the buses. Guess that's something we should've been doing for years already.

I agree. I would love to live in a city where I could either walk or bike to work and I would not have to rely on an automobile to get around. That's pretty hard to do in Rapid City!
I'm predicting less tourists in the Black Hills this year. Gas is just too high.

Or it could be a wash. More local Midwesterners may chose to go to the Black Hills as opposed to points beyond to stay closer to home and still have a wash.
DannyBanany, gas is $3.19 for SuperUnleaded in most spots in Sioux Falls and $3.24 in Lennox. I have been going slower and going 70 mph as opposed to going 75-80 mph (which helps with the gas mileage) and making trips into SF and making one or two less trips per week and making trips up there to be as productive as possible.
Come and move to Sioux Falls. The city has a bus system that is respectable for a city its size. More people are using the bus due to higher gas prices.
I would like to see alternative energy and hybrid/fuel efficient vehicles as other options to curb our dependance on oil and this will be good for the country in the long term (less wars fought over oil, better environmental sense, and job creation opportunities through new industries).

Rapid City also has an efficient bus system (RapidRide) but some of the people who use it are really sketchy and even though my house is right on a route, it avoids some places that I would need to go.
Plus, I have a sick attachment to my car!
Hopefully I can change my ways. If I lived in Denver, MSP, or another large city it would not be such a problem. I've also thought about San Francisco and Seattle. If I lived in those cities I would definitely not have a car... I don't think I could afford having one anyway!

If gas gets high, I would consider getting a Honda Civic or something comparable when I am ready to get a newer vehicle in a couple of years. I drive a midsize car and the higher gas prices impact me some. Do you drive a midsize car such as an Chevy Impala, Pontiac Grand Prix, Toyota Camary, or Honda Accord or a smaller car such as Cavalier, Civic, or Corolla?
The higher gas prices are a pain, but the price impact will be lessened with a little conservation. If more people slow down a little and slim down on their everyday driving a little, this could cut demand for gas and limit the increase of gas prices and possibly lower them. The falling dollar is part of it and the heavy budget deficits and the expenses of the war are making the value of the dollar concerns worse in my opinion.

Thank God I have an '04 Honda Accord! I also have a '99 Mitsubishi Montero but I rarely drive it because it just eats up gas too much. I can make it to Sioux Falls on one tank in the Honda. I love it. I see people driving Ford Excursions and Suburbans and I just can't see how they can afford it. Even if they are loaded.

You should seriously consider Portland, Oregon. It is much flatter than either Seattle or San Fancisco and way less expensive. It must be the bike capital of the world! The climate affords year around biking and walking opportunities, and excellent public transportation. Of course, the price of housing would negate any saving in gas!

Thanks! I have actually considered Portland too. I have a couple friends out there and they love it!
My cousin lives out there too, but she's really into Bob Marley and Grateful Dead so I'm not sure if she moved out there for the 'local beauty'.
