Like I and others have said, the elks lodge and the speedway fireworks are probably your best bet. Happy Independence Day!
Thanks!! We get the daily paper and I found it listed there. We have decided on the speedway fireworks. Either from home or if we get done helping friends move in time we might go to the race too

rjl78 - do you know the location or address for the Elks and Speedway ones?
It's Jolly Lane.

The Elks is super close to our homes. Have you been to Jolly Lane Greenhouse yet? It's right down the road from there. You'll be able to see everything from your apt.
The Elks is the 5th this year.
You can also see the fireworks across from the old Albertsons from your apt. I usually park my car along Twilight and watch.

If you live in Rapid Valley you probably won't even have to leave your backyard to see fireworks. The Valley becomes Kuwait on July 4th!

That's a tough one, I believe your neighborhood is actually in Rapid City limits, but you are in the Valley. If they ever annex all of the "Valley" I bet we'd still call it the Valley.

Would that make you a Valley Girl?

From my fire service days, we worked quite a bit with Rapid Valley Fire Department, would always call the men and women of the department, valley boys and girls.

I've tried all the sites I can find and none of them are saying anything about any of the fireworks other than Mt. Rushmore. Particular I'm interested in RC and Elks displays. (May be just me not finding info - I'm "kinda 'puter 'tupid")

It took me a while to actually find it listed online (was much easier in the printed paper).. Here is the link if it works: Rapid City Journal | News » Local | Fireworks shows, parades planned (http://www.rapidcityjournal.com/articles/2009/06/30/news/local/doc4a499cfd4d1e4754829122.txt - broken link)

Here are the details if the link doesn't work:

Friday, July 3

  • Floyd Fitzgerald Stadium, Canyon Lake Drive, after the Post 22-Coon Rapids, Minn., baseball game
  • Mount Rushmore National Memorial: Amphitheater program at 7 p.m., fireworks over mountain carving about 9:20 p.m.
  • Belle Fourche: Roundup grounds, dusk, after rodeo

Saturday, July 4

  • Arrowhead County Club, Sheridan Lake Road, at dusk, after games and activities for children and members.
  • Black Hills Speedway, Jolly Lane-Highway 44, after racing, about 10-10:30 p.m.
  • Memorial Park, downtown, at dusk, after Black Hills Heritage Festival events
  • Custer: Pageant Hill, dusk (donations help the Custer Volunteer Fire Department), after Old-Time Country Fair activities downtown.
  • Hot Springs: Dusk, from city landfill, with viewing and music at Pamida parking lot along Highway 18, following games and activities throughout downtown.
  • Lead: Downtown, Dusk, after Gold Camp Jubilee games and activities.
  • Newcastle, Wyo.: Dusk, Weston County Fairgrounds.
  • Sturgis: Dusk, Sturgis Fairgrounds, Ballpark Road.
Sunday, July 5

  • Elks Lodge, Jolly Lane, at dusk, after games and activities, which begin at 1 p.m.

Hope that helps!
