I have been living in Hot Springs for the past 6+ yrs so I am not sure what the area was like in the '80s. I think you will find that Rapid is more culturally diverse now than it was then. I also think that finding a job in Rapid is much easier than it was then. The climate hasn't changed nor has the topography. Traffic is probably a little heavier, but I do not have a problem with it.
Just an update on this. The longer I stay near Rapid City, the more I notice that Rapid City is a bit more diverse than I had initially thought. This is especially notable at places like the library. I'm noticing many more blacks, plenty of Asians moving inland from the West Coast (Chinese, I believe)...and of course, tons of Mexicans & Indians. White is still the majority, but like most of the United States, arrangements are being made so that will not be the case for long. Rapid City probably has more time than most other cities to remain European-American (due to its relatively remote location)...but given enough time, it will turn.
The only race is human. I don't care what color skin someone has, and if someone doesn't like minorities, and posts such things on here, then they are violating the rules of city-data. We're all humans and we all bleed the same color.
Great source of info, Poncho. Thankyou. Everyone should do a thorough research before moving especially when it comes to violent crime rates.
