I have been living in Hot Springs for the past 6+ yrs so I am not sure what the area was like in the '80s. I think you will find that Rapid is more culturally diverse now than it was then. I also think that finding a job in Rapid is much easier than it was then. The climate hasn't changed nor has the topography. Traffic is probably a little heavier, but I do not have a problem with it.

I'm noticing many more blacks, plenty of Asians moving inland from the West Coast (Chinese, I believe)...and of course, tons of Mexicans & Indians. White is still the majority, but like most of the United States, arrangements are being made so that will not be the case for long. Rapid City probably has more time than most other cities to remain European-American (due to its relatively remote location)...but given enough time, it will turn.
