Would be interested to hear from someone who has or does sell residential real estate. I'm wondering what's involved, what kind of money can realistically be made, how to get into it? I know you need a license, but then what? Is it worth pursuing?
You only need a license (at least in my state) if you want to earn a commission buying or selling property.
I bought and sold my first home 2 years before I became a licensed realtor and I doubled my investment in the home. Didn't need to use a realtor and didn't have to pay a commission.

Yes, I meant selling other people's houses and earning commissions.
You might want to contact some agents in your area to find out how they got started and what their careers have been like. Real estate is local -- you'll want to know what the agents in your area are doing, and how long it took them to become successful or at least stable. It's not an easy business to just get into if you don't know much about it.

^^ Ditto
In the State of Georgia, all real estate agents must work for a real estate broker so you have to consider/factor in the fact that you may have to pay a flat fee or a percentage of your sales to the broker. Keep in mind that being a real estate agent is opening your very own business. I know local agents that are fine about earning just enough money for the family vacation to those that have 10 plus members as part of their team.
Real estate is not a 9-5 Monday through Friday career in my opinion. To be successful, you must have a very flexible schedule for meeting up with clients, previewing properties and meeting with home inspectors and contractors.
Best of luck to you!
