Need recommendations to help sellers change out their old brass hardware, so what is the latest trend that is attracting buyers?

Brushed nickel/ Oil Rubbed Bronze/ Satin nickel/ Chrome etc????

The house is a 20 year old colonial.

We went with brushed nickel everywhere. 2 flip houses and our own, and nothing but compliments.

I personally prefer the brushed nickel and I think it will stand the test of time better but most of the builders around here seem to be putting oil rubbed bronze in their houses. People seem to like it.

What you use depends on the style of the house. Oil rubbed bronze doesn't look good in every house. When I think Colonial, I think vintage homes, not something 20 years old with brass in it.

It would be amazing if simply changing cabinet knobs could attract buyers.

If existing hardware is not too ugly, leave it and let the buyer decide how to spend $200 to upgrade to his own tastes

I don't often tell my clients to make upgrades in their house when getting ready to sell. However, I've seen first hand how making small changes can give big results. Spending a couple of hundred dollars on hardware like this certainly isn't going to be a huge difference maker but the help it could provide in some situations could have a return greater than the cost to do it.

It depends on style and color schemes IMO. Nickel is a good versatile finish for most homes but in some older homes or with certain colors I prefer bronze.

Unfortunately, a lot of the builder's around here don't seem to get that. However, neural grays and white are very popular colors lately. So, the darker finish of the oil rubbed bronze seems to go well with that. Personally, I'd rather brighten the whole look a touch more and go with the nickel.

I prefer the oil rubbed bronze, to me the brushed nickel is too contemporary. But everyone has different taste. And the color of your cabinets, floors, and walls will favor one or the other. Look at what is selling in your neighborhood and see which is more popular.
